Victor Harbor

Recently, after visiting Port Lincoln, we had the opportunity to holiday at Glenelg and enjoy a day trip to Victor Harbor. Which is a seaside town situated on Encounter Bay located eighty-three kilometres from Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. This is the perfect place to spend a relaxing holiday with stunning views, clear turquoise waters and great surfing beaches.

A number of pubs, cafes and restaurants are located in the area. We chose to have our lunch at the Hotel Victor, which is located on the esplanade overlooking the bay. In addition to the excellent food, we also enjoyed the terrific views.

Unfortunately, we only had time to look around for a bit. There were so many things that we would have liked to do, but did not have the time to do them all. For our next visit, we hope to spend a week or two here. Preferably, we will come sometime between May and October, when the Southern Right Wales are frequently known to visit Encounter Bay, which would be an amazing experience.

Granite Island & The Little Penguins

One of the places that we would have loved to visit if given the time is Granite Island, which is home to the Little Penguins. Gorgeous Clydesdale horses lead the way by pulling a tram across the causeway. Starting at dusk, guided penguin tours allow you to see the penguins coming ashore, making their way to their burrows after a day of fishing. Depending on the season, you can see them display a variety of behaviours.

The Cockle Train

When we return we will definitely include a steam rail experience by boarding the Cockle Train. This train travels from Goolwa to Victor Harbor. The coastal scenery between Victor Harbor and Port Elliot is absolutely picturesque.

Fun Things for the Kids At Victor Harbor

There are also a lot of fun things for kids to do in Victor Harbor. They can get in touch with Mother Nature and the local animals at the Urimbirra Wildlife Park. The Greenhills Adventure Park and the Duens Mini Golf Course are also great ways to spend a day of fun with the entire family.

Victor Harbor & McLaren Vale Tours

Full-day tours are available to Victor Harbor and McLaren Vale, which depart from Adelaide and Glenelg. Tourists in this region enjoy tasting the fresh local produce, sampling the wares at the award-winning wineries and taking in the glorious beaches. Tours include a stop in the Scottish town of Strathalbyn for morning tea along the Angas River, strolling along the esplanade of Victor Harbor with free time to visit the many local cafes and a tour along the southern coastline.

The McLaren Vale region offers an outstanding view of the almond and olive groves, iron stone cottages and rolling vineyards. You are encouraged to explore Main Street and sample wines. The local guides on these tours provide expert commentary that allows you to learn as much as possible on your visit.
